Project Brief for Architecture Design Studio-I
1. EXERCISE - ANTHROPOMETRY
Introduction to human dimensions and functions, space-activity relationships, measure drawings of simple living units. With an aim to them understand the relationship between the user and space. Students are supposed to find out the spatial standards for the performance of the activity. And to conduct this exercise students will measure their own body dimensions under different postures like sitting, standing, walking, etc.
2. UNIT SPACE DESIGN
Measuring Drawing of any of the single unit space like kitchen, toilet, bedroom, etc. as the aim of the exercise is to explore everything about these single-unit spaces so that by using all this knowledge students will design single-unit space. And students are also required to do the measure drawing of their own house single unit space and analyses them properly.
3. BUILDING DESIGN
Design Of Mono-Cellular-Unit/Structure on A-Level Plane, Designing of Simple Activity Spaces, Designing of Multiple but Simple Activity Spaces Involving Primary Horizontal Circulation. In this exercise, the main focus is on the design of a single unit of residential building spaces.
Project:
design
of selected individual residential units of building spaces
Project
Objective: The aim of this exercise is to study and
design different spaces of single family residential building. The students are
required to come up with interior design of the spaces both in 2D and 3D
isometric and perspective drawings.
Duration:
One
week
Maximum
point/mark: 20%

The Difference between Architecture and Building is Design
Building (v.) = Building (n.)
Design BEFORE Building = Architecture
DESIGN of Buildings and Spaces According to Human Needs Using Technology and Science, With Aesthetic Qualities
DESIGN is an activity aiming at the production of a plan of action which if executed is expected to lead to a situation with certain desired characteristics and without unforeseen and undesired side and after effects.

Assignment:
In this exercise you are only required to communicate with only two words i.e. Design Element & Design Principle
With your digital camera and your decision-making abilities, photograph 21 different combinations of the following elements and principles of design. You have to use each subject at least once.
Produce a power point presentation of all resulting photographs
Print one A3 size paper containing all pictures.
Include the details of your description.
Assignment 2:
Points, Lines and Plane
Knowledge: The formal and informal organization of points, lines and planes.
Ability: To organize shapes in a meaningful way.
Skills: Train students to use points, lines and planes to produce patterns and shapes.
Using A3-size white papers to develop a pattern using the following elements:
- Points or dots of different or equal size using black or colored pens.
- Lines of same and different thickness or width cut from black or colored papers.
- Planes of same of different sizes and shapes cut from black or colored papers.
Assignment 3: The Grid
Objectives:
Knowledge: Organization of architectural spaces
Ability: To select appropriate grid for design
Skills: To draft different types of grids.
Activity: On A3 sheet sketch the following patterns of Grid
Assignment 4: Abstraction
Abstraction is a technique adopted by artists from historical times to bring out the aesthetics of the subject. The basic visual element of the line itself is the most primitive abstract artistic expression.
Students are asked to select a number of such compositions in the form of printed photographs, pictures, advertisements and illustrations from the available books and magazines. Initially their selection is based on the logic & quote; I like it &I don't like it. These pictures are supposed to be the pictures that are the best from student's point of view. Subsequently students are asked to make sketches, based on these compositions and to create an abstracted version of the original picture in exactly 5 steps as follows:
· To eliminate details.
· To convert the three-dimensional picture into two-dimensional line work.
· To draw the same picture by using dots.
· To draw the same picture by using technique of smudging and undefined hazy shapes.
· To eliminate the colors or adopt new color scheme.
