Elements of Design

Elements of Design:

Possibly the word Element is very common and used in various fields but in the case of architecture or any other art-based design field these elements represent the basic unit or component that can be analyzed from any visualizing sight or picture. In simpler words, whatever is visible to our eyes is made up of elements of design and that visual seen can be considered as composition. So basically, there are seven design elements: (Space, Point, Line, Shape, Form, Colour, and Texture).

1) Space:

The term space is associated with the context of usability or workability suppose you doing any sketching on A4 size then this paper is going to be considered as a working space that limits your workability. In the other case suppose your doing some sightseeing may be static view or in motion in such cases here space refers to your visual limits up to what range you can see will be considered as space. So basically space is nothing but a periphery or visual boundary inside which elements are organized.

2)  Point:

A point or dot can be considered as one of the most minor components among all the elements of design which can not be further divided into smaller components. a stand-alone point on the paper can get the focus but a group of points may give you either direction or visual closure.

The above composition is made up of several dots in a way either they are creating focus or showing the direction to create the shape.

3)  Line:

A Line is one of the most important elements among all the elements of design as it is used for the creation of any composition and depending upon the type of line it has several meanings inside it.

4)  Shape:

A shape is basically a two-dimensional enclosure formed by grouping points or lines. A shape can be of different types ranging from regular shape to organic or fluid shape.

5)  Form:

A form is basically a three-dimensional enclosure formed by the grouping of lines or points. it may occur in a regular form or organic form.

6)  Colour:

Colour is the aspect of describing any object in terms of Hue, value, and Saturation.

7)  Texture:

Texture gives the surface information of any material like whether the material is having a smooth surface or a rough surface etc.
